Tiled roofs
-
Guildford's older clay-tiled roofs often have more life left in them than they look to, so we get up and look first, then say whether it is a repair or a re-roof.
-
Plain clay, interlocking concrete or natural slate, relaid on fresh battens over a breathable membrane.
-
Ridge and hips screwed and clipped to BS 5534 rather than sat on mortar, which stopped being enough years ago.
-
Ventilation paths left open at eaves and ridge, so a tighter roof does not turn into a condensation problem.

Flat roofs
-
GRP fibreglass, EPDM rubber or torch-on felt on Guildford's dormers and extensions, chosen to suit the deck and the falls.
-
Boards lifted and looked at before anything goes over them, because a soft deck shows through a new covering.
-
Falls run to the outlet, with trims, upstands and drips shaped to throw water clear.
-
Rooflights, hatches and pipe collars flashed properly, since that is where flat roofs give up.

Repairs and leaks
-
Slipped tiles, storm damage and leaks traced to the actual source, which on the steep roofs near the town centre is often a valley not a tile.
-
Flashings, valleys, soakers and chimney work in lead of the right code, not mastic and optimism.
-
Gutters, fascias, soffits and downpipes cleared or renewed, because a damp wall usually starts with a blocked gutter.
-
Scaffold or tower to suit the job, ground sheeted, and the site swept before we go at the end of the day.
